Blogging is boring

Obviously I haven’t had much to say since I haven’t posted since May 6th. . .

Still trying to think of something to write about . . .

Ummmmmm . . .

Holidays are coming up. I’m thinking about going out and starting my Christmas shopping today. Just want to get it out of the way. Jake’s gone a lot this month on hunting trips so I have a lot of spare time. Oh I have friends coming next weekend to visit in Reno!!! I’m SUPER excited about that. Thanks to Mary, Laura, & Trina for coming out here, I can’t wait!

So I’ve come to the conclusion that blogging is just plain boring. Well, unless you are an exciting celebrity or actually do anything worth writing about. If I’m going to be honest, the most exciting thing going on recently is my husband running around the house with his shirt off “hunting” flies.  It’s his favorite thing. Heaven forbid a fly gets past him, he’ll spend the next 5 hours tracking and stalking it.  I spent about 3 hours carefully ripping stitches out of a shirt I wanted to alter. Aren’t we a fun bunch? :)

Yep, that’s it. Just me and the fly hunter doing the usual. Say hi or come and visit and make our lives a little more exciting!

A Whole Year Has Gone By!

Hard to believe but Jake and I have now been married a whole year. We celebrated our anniversary May 3rd by going to Grassvalley and staying the night there. It was a blast. It poured rain the entire time but it was beautiful. The flowers on the trees were all in bloom and everything else was the brightest green. Quite a different change of scenery from the brown I’m used to seeing in Reno. I kicked myself after we left because I forgot my camera.  We ate dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Cirino’s. Such great food. Then we drove to Roseville to the mall and shopped around for a while. It was really relaxed and was so nice to get away for a night just the two of us. Jake bought me a beautiful cross necklace and stud earrings for our anniversary. He gets an A+ at his first year as my hubby :)

It actually has been getting greener here in Reno. It is my first spring so I’m mesmerized by the flowers on the trees and everything. Still waiting for the weather to turn warm. It’s getting better but it’s so windy that it’s hard to even appreciate the changing temperature. I just have to be patient, it’ll get here soon.

Jake went to Mexico with his friends on a camping trip. When he came back he learned about the swine flu…. Fortunately no sniffles or anything, he’s perfectly healthy. :) He did come back with a very nice tan though, I’m very jealous!

Not much else going on here. The big news is that we have been married a whole year. It went by so fast, I hope time starts slowing down. Hope everyone is doing well! oh and Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Spring?

Alright what’s up with the weather? Day before yesterday is was nearly 70 degrees and yesterday it snowed?!?!?! Come on! I’m a San Diegan, cut me a break! :) Yes, I am eager for the weather to warm up. In fact, I can’t wait. I prematurely planted herb seeds hoping that by me planting something the weather would have to cooperate. That just left me with dead seedlings :) I’ve started again, this time about a month later and hopefully I’ll do a better job.

Jake and I got back from Puerto Vallarta a couple weeks ago on vacation. It was so wonderful. I miss the beach and warm weather. I think it gave me even more of an “itch” for spring to come though. Dangerous. We stayed for a week in a gorgeous condo that Nannette’s (our sis in law – Hi Nannette!) parents own. Jake and I both got pretty tan – although I forgot to put sunscreen on my ear and ended up with a 3rd degree burn and a HORRIBLE blister. Learn from my mistake and don’t forget your ears! We did an adventure tour – canopy zip line, repelling down a waterfall, boat ride, etc. – which was a blast. Ate a TON of awesome food and spent a significant amount of time on the beach or in the hot tub. A lot of times vacations get boring after a week but I bet we could have stayed there a month. It was wonderful!  Thanks Ryan & Nannette for letting us come with you guys.

By the way, Ryan and Nannette were deployed to UAE this morning. PLEASE pray for them while they are out there.

Life’s been busy lately. Scott came out for Easter with his girlfriend Ashley. It’s been a lot of fun getting to see family this month. We went to church, had an Easter Egg Hunt, hung out, and ate awesome food.

So now it’s back to normal life. Nothing new there… Oh except my new and improved (I hope) herb garden. Anyone have tips on gardening?  Jake is coaching high school baseball in Incline. He is really enjoying it and the kids love him.

One last thing…. one of my dearest friends, Jen, is raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I want to help her spread the word. It would mean the world to me if you’d visit her site and pray for the cause. Thanks :)  Jen’s Site

Hope you are doing wonderful! God bless!!!

P.S. One LAST thing I promise. It was super cold today and some “brilliant” person decided to leave a sprinkler on overnight. Although they didn’t do the plants any favors it made for a really neat photo op:

Jan 25th 2009

I can’t believe January is almost over!  I feel like I’m going to wake up tomorrow and it’ll be 2010 already.  This has been a really busy month.  We went to Vegas last weekend to spend some time with friends.  It was a much longer drive than we expected – took us about 7 hours.  And of course, there is NOTHING between Reno and Vegas except dirt and road.  I read my book the whole way in the car but poor Jake was bored out of his mind.  Next time we’ll do some books on CD or maybe some comedy CDs or something for the car.

Not much to report.  Jake and I are working out more, trying to get in shape.  We’re doing pretty good so far but we have a ways to go.  Oh and we watched the Ben Stiller movie “Tropic Thunder” last night – DON’T waste your time on that movie.  Probably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.  Definitely feel dumber after watching that.  Actually I haven’t seen a movie I’ve been REALLY impressed with for a long time.  Any recommendations?

I’m going to spend this evening putting away Christmas decorations.  Neither of us wanted Christmas to end, so everything is still out.  No tree this year though, since we spent Christmas in San Diego.  We’ll go all out next year with a tree and everything.

LOVE YOU ALL!!!  Hope your 2009 is starting off well.  Keep in touch!

Oh the holidays…

I am sad that the hoildays are over, and yet at the same time so relieved! Jake and I spent a couple of days doing nothing but recovering :)  I know I said I was going to try to keep this updated about every two weeks…. obviously I failed miserably.  So here’s the low down on what’s been going on in our lives the past two months:

Jake and I spent Thanksgiving with the entire Menath family in Lake Tahoe at Jake’s parents house.  It is SUCH a fun Thanksgiving with approx 25 of Jake’s family members.  LOVE IT!  And one of the best parts was my family got to join us!  My mom and sisters stayed with us a couple of days.  It was a blast.  Thanks to all of the Menaths who welcomed them with open arms!

Christmas was down in San Diego this year, quite different for Jake.  We all had a great time and it was SO fun to have our first holiday season together.  We are both so blessed to have in-laws that we love so much!!  And even though learning to “share” holidays between families is hard to get used to, it definitely makes it easier having such wonderful people in our lives.  Here’s a couple pics of our Christmas:

We drove back to our home in Reno on the 27th.  A couple days later a bunch of our friends came and stayed with us to celebrate New Year’s with us.  We drove up to South Lake and crowded into the streets for the count down, quite the experience.

So we are home now, took us a couple of days to recover from the holidays.  Jake and I went to the gym today for the first time in a LONG while, and we both have gained a ton of weight. So thats our non-resolution (just an ordinary goal) – to get back in shape, how original!

Anyway, we hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!  HAPPY 2009!!!!

I am obviously filled with empty promises because I’ve said I’d try to update this every two weeks and this has been something around two months now.  SORRY!  I’ll try harder!  Much love to you all from the two of us here in Reno!

November 4, 2008

Today Jake and I are celebrating our 6 month anniversary!  We went to dinner together in downtown Reno – a treat in itself.  It’s crazy to think we’ve already been married for 6 months.  It really has gone by too quickly.

long-bow

Right now Jake’s big project is crafting a long bow.  Yes – one you can shoot like the Indians.  It’s an intense project but he loves it.  Typically I can find him in the garage if I don’t know where he’s at – scraping away at his piece of wood.  I think it’s going to turn out great.

I just got my wedding pictures and I’m going to start working on scrapbooking them.  I need to do it now, otherwise they’ll just end up in a box for the rest of my life.  And I think they deserve to be showcased a little better than that!

Kitty

Kitty

Our kitty is doing well.  She LOVES her new home – all 1800 square feet she can bound around in.  If she’s upstairs and we shake her little jingly toy downstairs she runs downstairs so fast it sounds like a thunderstorm.  And she’s a small kitty!  Pretty cute though I must say.
